HomeMy WebLinkAbout97-004 CC Resolution RESOLUTION NO. 97-04 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TEMECULA DESIGNATING THE IWROVEMIENT OF MURRIETA CREEK AS THE HIGHEST PRIORITY FLOOD CONTROL PUBLIC WORKS PROJECT The City Council of the City of Temecula does resolve, determine and order as follows: WHEREAS, Murrieta Creek is a natural watercourse owned by the Riverside County Flood Control District and various private property owners and flows through the City of Temecula; and AS, during severe winter storms in 1993, flows slightly in excess of 20,000 cubic feet per second overtopped the banks of Murrieta Creek and flowed through the streets of Old Town causing extensive property damage; and WHEREAS, the Temecula - Murrieta Creek Advisory Committee ("Committee") was formed, of which the City of Temecula is a member, to consider the study prepared by Riverside County Flood Control District for Murrieta Creek improvements and to design mitigation measures therefor; and WHEREAS, the Riverside County Flood Control District has completed its study of the 220 square mile area tributary to Murrieta Creek; and WHEREAS, the Riverside County Flood Control District designed measures to increase the capacity of the creek using a highly conservative I OG-year storm event standard with estimated flows of approximately 40,000 cfs; and WHEREAS, City Council of the City of Temecula agrees with the plan; and WHEREAS, participation by the City of Temecula in implementing the mitigation and improvement project for Murrieta Creek is intended to protect the public safety, health and welfare and to reduce the potential for death, injury and property damage. NOW, THEREFORE be it resolved, that the City Council of the City of Temecula hereby designates the Improvement of Murrieta Creek as the "Highest Priority Flood Control Public Works Project" in Zone No. Seven. Resos\97-04 PASSED, APPROVED, AND ADOPTED, by the City Council of the City of Temecula at a regular meeting held on the 14th day of January 1997. Patricia H.
