HomeMy WebLinkAbout97-067 CC ResolutionRESOLUTION NO. 97-67 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TEMECULA, REQUF~TING THE SERVICES OF THE COUNTY REGISTRAR OF VOTERS TO CONDUCT THE GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION TO BE HELD ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 4, 1997. WI-1EREAS, the City Council of the City of Temecula, California, has called a General Municipal Election to be held on Tuesday, November 4, 1997, for the purpose of the election of three (3) members of the City Council and WHEREAS, it is desirable that the General Municipal Election be consolidated with the Statewide General Election to be held on the same date and that within the City the precincts, polling places and election officers of the two elections be the same, and that the county election department of the County of Riverside canvass the returns of the General Municipal Election and that the election be held in all respects as if there were only one election; NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TEMECULA DOES RESOLVE, DECLARE, DETERMINE AND ORDER AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. That pursuant to Sections 22003 and 23302 of the Elections Code of the State of California, the Registrar of Voters of the County of Riverside is hereby requested to conduct the General Municipal Election in consolidation with the statewide General Election on Tuesday, November 4, 1997, for the purpose of the election of three (3) Members of the City Council of the City of Temecula. Section 2. That, except for those services routinely conducted by the City Clerk, delegation is hereby made to the county elections department of the powers and duties of the elections officer for the City of Temecula to conduct said election in accordance with all applicable laws and procedures. The election shall be held in all respects as if there were only one election, and only one form of ballot shall be used for each of the three (3) affected Councilmanic positions. Section 3. That, in all particulars not recited in this Resolution, said election shall be held and conducted as provided by law for holding municipal elections in said City. Section 4. That the City of Temecula recognizes that additional costs will be incurred by the County, by reason of this consolidation, and agrees to reimburse the County for such additional costs. Section 5. That the Registrar of Voters of the County of Riverside is hereby authorized, instructed and directed to give such further or additional notice of said election, in R¢~97~7 -1- time form and manner as required. Section 6. That said Registrar of Voters is hereby authorized to canvass the returns of said General Municipal Election. Section 7. That the City Clerk is hereby directed to file a certified copy of this Resolution with the Board of Supervisors, the county elections department of the County of Riverside and with the County Clerk. Section 8. The City Clerk shall certify to the passage and adoption of this resolution. PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED, this 24th day of June, 1997. ATTEST: Patricia H.
