A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF TEMECULA
SUPPORTING THE CURRENT LEVEL OF VEHICLE LICENSE
FEES (VLF) FOR CITIZENS AND THE PROTECTION OF
LOCAL GOVERNMENT REVENUES FROM STATE BUDGET
CUTS
WHEREAS, the City of Temecula does not support an increase in the VLF registration
fees passed on to our citizens; and
WHERAS, the City of Temecula is adamantly opposed to any increase in these
registration fees to our citizens in an effort to balance that State budget shortfall; and
WHEREAS, the City of Temecula is very pleased with the current arrangement of VLF
revenues and request that the backfill payments from the State to local governments remain
intact; and
WHEREAS, the City of Temecula does not want to see VLF revenue decreased but
rather remain at its current level; and
WHEREAS, the City of Temecula has projected over $3.3 million dollars in Vehicle
License Revenue for 2002-03 (nearly 9% of the General Fund Revenues); and
WHEREAS, these revenues are critical to continue providing local services; and
WHEREAS, State lawmakers can and should avoid putting local services at risk to solve
state budget problems; and
WHEREAS, Local services including police and fire protection, emergency medical
response, programs for seniors, roads, water systems and public transportation should not be
jeopardized to balance the state budget; and
WHEREAS, local services and local revenues are down from the slowed economy, as a
result local services are also stretched thin at a time when population and demands for services
are soaring; and
WHEREAS, local governments and local services are already playing a considerable
role in the budget solution; and
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Temecula supports the current
level of Vehicle License Fees (VLF) for our citizens and the protection of local government
revenues from State budget cuts.
