Dear Mrs. Gudino:
In accordance with your request and signed work order, EnGEN Corporation has performed a Soils
Percolation Feasibility Study for the above referenced project. The purpose of this study was to
evaluate the existing geotechnical conditions within the subject property with respect to design and
construction recommendations utilizing leach line design for its on-site sewage disposal system.
Submitted herewith are the results of this firm's findings and recommendations, along with the
supporting data.
' 1.0 PROPOSED DFVEI OPMFNT AND PURPOSE FOR PERCOLATION TFRTINC�
1.1 Proposed Development: The proposed development for the subject site will be a single-family
residence and guesthouse. It is represented that site improvements will include the grading of
the site to produce a level building area for future structure(s), along with associated hardscape
' and landscape improvements. The area for the proposed leach field is located in the
southeasterly corner of the property and will remain undisturbed natural ground, (see Plate 1).
1.2 Purpose for Percolation Testing: The purpose for the percolation testing is to provide the
design rate and designation of leach field location to accommodate on-site sewage effluent
' disposal per Riverside County Department of Environmental Health requirements.
' 2.0 ITE DESCRIPTION AND IDEOGRAPH
2.1 The subject site is a 2.26-acre lot located northwest of Jedediah Smith Road, Temecula,
Riverside County, California. Vertical topographic relief across the site is approximately 40-feet

' profiles which are defined as Alluvium and Pauba Formation Bedrock (sandstone) which is
exposed at the surface in the northerly portion of the site (See Plate 1). The location of the
' proposed leach field area is below and southeast of the proposed building pad area (see Plate
1). Topography across the proposed leach field area is very gentle sloping terrain sloping to the
' southwest at an approximate gradient of less than 10 percent.
' 3.0 SUBSURFACE STUDY
3.1 Exploratory Excavations: An inspection of the subsurface conditions within the proposed
leach field area was conducted to evaluate underlying earth materials and the presence of
' groundwater. The explored locations are denoted on the Percolation Feasibility Study Site
Plan (Plate 1). One (1) suitable exploratory backhoe pit (TP-1) was excavated on the subject
' site do a maximum depth of 15-feet below ground surface (bgs) within the proposed leach field
area. Additional exploratory backhoe test pits were excavated as.part of a geotechnical study
' for site grading improvements and foundation recommendations. These additional
exploratory excavations were used for this report in order to establish the contact between the
' Pauba Formation Bedrock and the alluvial. deposits across the southerly portion of the
property. The additional exploratory excavations extend to a maximum depth of six (6) feet
' from existing ground surface. The exploratory pits were logged for earth materials and
subsurface conditions encountered by a qualified professional from this firm, (see Appendix).
' The materials were described in general accordance with the Unified Soils Classification
System (USCS) using visual-manual procedures. Upon completion of exploration, an
' approximate 15-foot long, 3-inch in diameter perforated PVC pipe was extended to the bottom
of TP-1 and backfilled with native earth materials. The PVC pipe was wrapped in a nylon
' fabric mesh "sock" (to prevent infiltration of fine particles). The pipe will serve as a
groundwater monitoring well for the purpose of verifying the findings of this report and Health
' Dept. Inspection. The exploratory pit was backfilled with reasonable effort to restore the area
in question to its natural condition. As with any area as small and deep as a backhoe pit,
' consolidation and subsidence of the backfill soil may result in time, causing a depression of
the area and a potentially hazardous condition. The client is advised to periodically examine
' the excavated area and, if necessary, backfill any noted depressions.
3.2 Protection of Groundwater Monitoring Well: In accordance with Riverside County
' Environmental Health Department guidelines EnGEN Corporation has placed a monitoring

' pipe in the exploratory backhoe pit. It is the responsibility of the client, property owner or
client/owner's representative to insure that the monitoring well is protected in the event that
' the Health Department should select the site for random well inspection prior to approval of
this report. Upon completion of field percolation testing EnGEN Corporation is no longer
' responsible for the protection of the groundwater monitoring well.
' 3.3 Percolation Testing: The percolation test areas were verified as being in undisturbed natural
earth materials. A total of four (4) percolation test pits were excavated in the bottom of
shallow. backhoe pits and tested within the anticipated leach field and 100%,expansion areas
on the subject site. The test pits were pre-soaked and tested in general accordance with the
procedures outlined rin Chapter 3 of the "Onsite Wastewater Treatment Systems, Technical
' Guidance Manual" (Version A), .publication issued by the Riverside County Department of
Environmental Health. Time intervals of 30-minute readings were used. The percolation test
results are presented in the Appendix of this report.
' 3.4 Earth Materials: The earth materials encountered within the exploratory pit TP-1 which was
excavated in the proposed leach field and expansion area on the subject parcel consist of
coarse to fine sand with some silt,.(SM-SP) from surface elevations to approximately 2.5-feet
tbelow existing ground surface and poorly graded sands with silt (SP-ML) to the maximum
depth explored of fifteen (15) feet. For a more detailed• description of material types
encountered in the exploratory excavations, refer to the Exploratory Backhoe Pit Logs
presented in the Appendix. Refusal was not encountered in the areas explored for the leach
line system. The site is composed of two basic soil profiles, Alluvium and a sandstone
bedrock formation commonly referred to as the Pauba Formation Bedrock that underlies the
' alluvium across the site. The Pauba Formation Bedrock varies greatly in percolation
capability and, where higher percentages of silts and clays are present, may result in poor
' percolation conditions. Test No. 1 which failed is representative of the Pauba Formation
characteristics at the site. Identifying the demarcation between the two soil profiles is
' important in location of the proposed leach field, and Plate 1 provides an approximately
boundary for the bedrock. The earth material strata as shown on the Exploratory Backhoe Pit
' Log represents the conditions encountered in the actual backhoe pit location at the time of our
field study, and other variations may occur throughout the subject property. Lines of
demarcation on the log represent the approximate boundary between the material types, but

the actual transition may be gradual.
' 3.5 Groundwater: There was no groundwater encountered in the exploratory test pit (TP-1, see
Plate 1) on the day excavation was made, or 24 hours after when checked by a representative
of this firm. There was no mottling or other evidence of historical high groundwater conditions
encountered within the exploratory backhoe pit to the total depth explored (15-feet bgs) at the
t time the subsurface exploration was performed for this study. It is the opinion of this firm that
groundwater is not likely to rise above the current level.
' 4.0 PRELIMINARY SYSTEM n ESIGN RECOMMENDATIONS
4.1 Design Criteria: Table - I (Percolation Test Results & Rates) indicates the recommended
' square foot per 100 gallon of septic tank capacity rate for the subject site based on field test
results within the areas tested for this report. Additional testing may be required should an
area other than that represented in this report be proposed for the leach field site.

The design rate assigned includes a safety factor to accommodate any soils variations that may
' not have been exposed in the field investigation. The sewage disposal field should be designed
and constructed in accordance with Chapter 5 of the "Onsite Wastewater Treatment Systems,
tTechnical Guidance Manual" (Version A) publication issued by the Riverside County
Department of Environmental Health. It is imperative that the leach lines be located in the
' delineated alluvival area of the site. Leach lines should not be placed in the Pauba Formation
Bedrock. Location of Leach Lines Leach lines should be installed in natural, undisturbed soils in
' the general vicinity of the percolation test locations and the 100 percent expansion area should
be planned for in the same area. Final leach field location must conform to the 100-foot
' separation from any water well location. Leach lines shall not be located under driveways. In
addition, leach lines shall be separated from the edge of pavement by at .least 3-feet. The
' determination for any additional testing should be made by the Riverside County Department of
Environmental Health and/or the Project Engineer.

' 4.2 Expansion Area: An area equivalent in size to the calculated primary disposal area is
required to be reserved for possible future system expansion. Allowance should be made in
' locating both the primary disposal area and the 100 percent expansion area on the site to
accommodate any future requirements. The 100 percent expansion area shall also be
' located in the area of acceptable test results.
4.3 Gravity Flow: The proposed structures should be located so that a gravity flow condition
' exists to the primary sewage disposal system and the future expansion area, unless otherwise
approved by the Riverside County Department of Environmental Health.
1 4.4 Grading On Sewage Disposal 'Area: The leach ,line inlets should be located in natural,
undisturbed 'soil at the recommended, total depth. No grading 'should be performed in the
proposed sewage disposal area. y
' 5.0 GUIDELINES FORS WA . F niqPQRAI RYST M USF
5.1 General: The following suggestions are reproduced from the "Homeowners and Users Guide
for On-Site Wastewater Disposal Systems." They are intended to increase the useful life of
the disposal system. Their applicability and effectiveness will vary with each project.
' 5.2 Minimize the.Liquid Load: The less wastewater produced,the less wastewater there will be
to dispose. The following suggestions will help to reduce the liquid load:
' . Repair leaky fixtures. Check toilets by dropping food dye in the tank and see if it shows in
the bowl without flushing.
' . Wash clothes only when there is a full load. Avoid doing several loads in one day.
Take short showers instead of baths. Do not turn the shower on all the way, and turn the
' water off while lathering.
Use a water-saving device in the toilet tanks and do not flush unnecessarily.
Do not let water run while washing hands, teeth, dishes, vegetables, etc. Use a
' stoppered basin.
Provide adequate drainage around the disposal area to divert runoff from higher ground.
' Many other ways of conserving water exist. Be alert for other water-saving ideas.
5.3 Minimize the Solids Load: A good rule is to not use the septic system for anything that can
' be disposed of some other way. The less material that is put into the septic tank, the less
often it will need pumping.
' . Avoid using a garbage disposal unit. Compost scraps or throw them out with the trash.

' . Collect grease in a container near the sink rather than pouring it down the drain.
Minimize the discharge of paper products. Non-degradable items, such as disposable
diapers, sanitary napkins, facial tissues, and paper towels are especially harmful. Do not
throw cigarette butts down the toilet.
Only three (3) things should go into the septic.tank: human waste, toilet opaaper, and watel
from toilets, bathing fixtures, laundry and kitchen sinks.
Ordinary use of household chemicals will not hurt the bacteria in the sewage disposal
' system but do not use excessive amounts. Also, do not use the system to dispose of
oils, paint thinner, or other hazardous liquids.
' 5.4 Septic Tank Additives: Chemicals, bacteria, enzymes, etc. may not help solids break down
in the septic tank and should not be expected to reduce the need for pumping.
5.5 Vehicle Traffic: Underground pipes and soil porosity can be damaged by driving vehicles
' over the area repeatedly. Never drive over the disposal area. This area should only be
walked on so as to attend the planted vegetation. Vegetation over the disposal system area
' may not need to be irrigated.
' 5.6 If the System Fails: If the system has failed, provisions should have been made for
supplementing the primary disposal system with a new one of equal or greater size. A
' qualified person.should design all failed system repairs. Leach line systems should be
replaced with a system of equal or greater size constructed in the general vicinity of the
' original, disposal system with their inlet lines in parallel so that each unit is loaded
simultaneously.
' 6.0 MISIM LISIONS
6.1 Sufficient Area Statement: Based on the data presented in this report and using the
' recommendations set forth, it is the judgment of this professional that there is sufficient area
on the parcel in question to support a primary and expansion OWTS that will meet the current
' standards of the Department of Environmental Health and the Regional Water Quality Control
Board (RWQCB).
' 6.2 Natural Ground Statement: The designed system shall be located in natural undisturbed soil at
the depth of the tests performed.
' 6.3 Soil Particle Size Statement: The natural occurring body of minerals and organic matter at the
proposed wastewater disposal area contains earthen material having more than 50% of its

' volume composed of particles smaller than 0.08 inches (2mm) in size.
' 6.4 Groundwater: Based on the data presented in this report and the testing information
accumulated, it is the judgment of this professional that the groundwater table will not encroach
within the current allowable limit set forth by County and State requirements.
7.0 G1 OSURg
This report has been prepared for use by the parties or project named or described in this
document. It may or may not contain sufficient information for other parties or purposes. In the
event that changes in the assumed nature, design, or location of the proposed structure and/or
project as described in this report are planned, the conclusions and recommendations contained
in this report will not be considered valid unless.the changes are reviewed and the conclusions
and recommendations of this report modified or verified in writing. This.study was conducted in
' general accordance with the applicable standards of the Geotechnical Engineering profession
and accepted sewage disposal system testing and design principles and practices at the time this
report was prepared. No other warranty, implied or expressed beyond the representations of this
' report, is made. Although every effort has been made to obtain information regarding the
subsurface conditions of the site, limitations exist with respect. to the knowledge of unknown
' regional or localized off-site conditions which may have an' impact on the parcels. The
recommendations presented in this report are valid as of the date of this report. However,
changes in the conditions of a property can occur with the passage of time, whether they are due
to natural processes or to the works of man on this and/or adjacent properties. If conditions are
' observed or information becomes available during the design and construction process that are
not reflected in this report, EnGEN Corporation should be notified so that supplemental
' evaluations can be performed and the conclusions and recommendations presented in this report
can be modified or verified in writing. In addition, changes in applicable or appropriate standards
1 of care or practice occur, whether they result from legislation or the broadening of knowledge and
