INTRODUCTION 300.491.2990 SANBILcoffism1'1:11 a. The purpose of this report is to present the results of geotechnical 389.944.5060 observation and testing services provided by MTGL, Inc. during rough grading of the building pad for proposed Raising Cane's H366 in Temecula, California. The project site is located at II II11•n11g1in{:CIIII 40390 Margarita Road, in the City of Temecula, Riverside County, California. b. This report covers testing services performed from November 13, 2018 through November 15, 2018. Page 1 of 8 1 - Raising Cane's H366 MTG1,Project No. 1165A36 Temecula, Riverside County, California MTGi Los No. 18-3653 2. PROJECT DESCRIPTION a. The project consisted of preparing the rough graded building pad for a new approximate 3,935 square foot single-story restaurant building. Estimated maximum structural loads for the proposed structure are 1 to 2 kips per linear foot for continuous footings and 40 to 80 kips for isolated pad footings. The structure is to have a slab-on-grade floor. b. MTGL, Inc. provided geotechnical observation and testing services during the current site grading operation for the proposed building pad. Reports detailing grading operations for project pavement areas and infrastructure construction operations will be provided under separate cover. 3. GRADING AND EARTHWORK a. Prior to the performance of site grading, existing improvements, including an existing restaurant building, pavements, slabs, utility lines, vegetation, and other debris were removed from the proposed building site. An 'approximate eight foot (8') deep grease interceptor associated with the previous on-site restaurant was removed from the southeastern portion of the proposed building pad. This excavation was backfilled to the bottom the building pad remedial excavation (see ,below) with compacted engineered fill. b. In accordance with the recommendations of the referenced geotechnical report, the soils beneath the proposed building pad, including a minimum . distance of at least five beyond the edge of the proposed building, were over-excavated to a minimum depth of 5 feet below existing ground elevation. The depth of excavation was sufficient to remove all undocumented fill within the proposed building pad area and to provide a minimum of one foot (1') of compacted fill beneath the bottoms of all foundations. C. The bottoms of the Initial remedial excavations were observed to be in competent native materials in accordance with the recommendations of the referenced geotechnical report. Following review and approval of the remedial excavations, the soils at the base of the remedial excavations Page 2 of 8 Raising Cane's#366 MTGL Project No. 1165A16 Temecula. Riverside County.California MTGL Loa No. 18-3653 were then scarified (ripped) a minimum of 10 inches. The scarified soils were then moisture conditioned and compacted utilizing conventional grading equipment. Compaction tests performed indicated dry densities of at least 90 percent of maximum dry density at the test locations. d. On-site soils used to backfill. the remedial excavations and to bring the building pad to rough pad grade elevation were placed in in relatively level thin lifts, approximately 8 inches in thickness. During placement the soils were moisture-conditioned to near optimum moisture content and compacted using conventional grading equipment. Compaction tests performed.on the soils used In the site grading operations indicated dry densities of at least 90 percent of maximum dry density at the test locations. e. Where compaction tests indicated non-conformance with project requirements, the affected soils were reworked, with the adjustment of moisture content as required, and recompacted Compaction tests were then conducted to confirm compaction in accordance with project requirements. f. Soils utilized in,the project grading and construction operations consisted of on-site dark brown, silty sand with.clay (SM/SC soil type based upon the Unified Soils Classification System)., These sols are similar to the soils encountered in the referenced Geotechnical Investigation dated October 18, 2017. g. The laboratory maximum density/optimum moisture contents of the soils utilized in the project grading and construction operations were determined in accordance with ASTM D 1557 (Method A) test procedures. Test results are reported in attached Table 1. c, Page 3 of 8 Raising Cane's 11366 MTGL Project No. 1165A16 Temecula, Riverside County, California MTG1 Loa No. 18-3653 4. TESTS 4.1 Field Procedures a. The compacted soils utilized in the project grading and construction operations were tested by the Soil Technicians as required by the recommendations of the referenced Geotechnical Report. Results of the field density testing are presented in attached Table 2. b. Soils considered representative of those utilized in the project grading operations were obtained for laboratory testing. Testing consisted of Maximum Density-Optimum Moisture (ASTM D 1557) for soils. C. The Expansion Index of soils considered representative of those utilized in the project grading operations. was determined in accordance with ASTM D 4829 test procedures. Test results yielded a value of 20, following into the "Very Low' classification. 4.2 Methods of Tests Field soil density (compaction) testing was performed by the direct transmission nuclear method (ASTM D 6938). The maximum density—optimum moisture relationship of the soils used was established in the laboratory by ASTM D 1557 (Method A)test procedures. 4.3 Records• A Field Daily Report was prepared by MTG1, Inc.'s Technician for each day of testing. The reports were generally reviewed by MTG, Inc.'s Engineer, and are complementary to this report. Page 4 of 8 Raising Cane's#366 MTGL Project No. 1165A16 Temecula Riverside County, California MTGL Log No. 18-3653 5. CONCLUSIONS Based on the above described observations and tests, it is considered that the geotechnical engineering aspects of the building pad grading and construction was performed in substantial conformance with the approved geotechnical reports and approved grading plans. The constructed building pad is deemed suitable for the support of the proposed structure. 6. RECOMMENDATIONS The.soils encountered during grading are essentially the same materials as those described in the referenced Geotechnical 'Investigation dated October 18, 2017 prepared by Terracon Consultants, Inc. Project, improvements can be designed and constructed.in accordance with the soil bearing values and recommended geotechnical design 'parameters contained within the referenced Geotechnical Investigation and all applicable. reviews and a Idendums. The building pad soils were tested to have a "Very Low" Expansion Index (ASTM D 4829) classification. Any additional site grading, pavement construction or utility installation should.be performed in accordance with the recommendations of the referenced Geotechnical Investigation dated October 18, 2017. 7. LIMITATIONS This report ,contains a statement of professional opinion based on MTGu Inc.'s field observations during rough grading, the results of tests performed during rough grading, a review of the referenced geotechnical engineering reports, and a geotechnical evaluation of the compiled data. MTGL, Inc.'s tests and observations were made in accordance with commonly accepted procedures consistent with applicable standards of practice. This report does not constitute a guarantee or warranty of any type and none should be inferred.
