Tiffany Baker, Chair ATTEST: Randi Johl, Executive Director [SEAL] 2 Item No. 2 RACE, EQUITY, DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION COMMISSION AGENDA REPORT TO: Race, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (REDI) Commission FROM: Randi Johl, Executive Director DATE: June 10, 2021 SUBJECT: Receive Status Update on the Race, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Initiative and Provide General Recommendations Regarding the Addition of an Equity Value PREPARED BY: Randi Johl, Director of Legislative Affairs/City Clerk RECOMMENDATION: That the Commission receive a status update on the Race, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Initiative adopted by the City Council and provide general recommendations regarding the addition of an equity value. BACKGROUND: On July 14, 2020, the City Council approved its Race, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (REDI) Initiative. As a part of the workplan, the City Council approved items in three phases related to ongoing education, communication, policy review, etc. The addition of an equity value was identified by the City Council as one item of specific note. The REDI Commission is charged with drafting an equity value which will be included in the Quality of Life Master Plan (QLMP) update and approval, along with the existing six core values. The equity value drafted by the REDI Commission will be forwarded to the Blue Ribbon Committee (BRC) assigned to the QLMP Update. The BRC will then forward their recommendations to the City Council for final review and approval. The item before the REDI Commission tonight is to therefore begin consideration of a draft equity value. Do not click links or open attachments unless you recognize the sender and know the content is safe. To The REDI Commission, As a Temecula resident and former teacher, I want to echo and make relevant this message from a current teacher to you as well as the parents, teachers and students who may be listening: "I'm going to give a message of encouragement to parents and teachers and students who are too afraid to come and speak forward. Parents, the longer that you wait and you don't hold (commissions like this as well as) your child's schools accountable, gives these guys more time to dictate (what's best for our town based on SKIN COLOR, along with) what's best for your child's physical, mental and emotional health. Don't be afraid to speak out for your kids because they are voiceless and they rely on you. You SHOULD be afraid of them rooting for Socialism by the time they get to middle school. Teachers, it may seem that our careers have come to a dead end but I'm here to remind you we don't work for the school board (nor should we be held to the recommendations of commissions like this one). We work to mold the next generation of well-rounded American Patriots, so don't give up because it is up to us. Students, you are on the front lines of these indoctrination camps. Challenge the staff when you are presented with a ludicrous statement and do not allow anybody to tell you that you cannot accomplish anything BECAUSE OF YOUR SKIN COLOR or to hate yourself BECAUSE OF YOUR SKIN COLOR. Students, it is up to you to be the next generation of VICTIMS or VIC-TORS." Signed, CB Homes
