MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY OF TEMECULA COMMUNITY SERVICES COMMISSION MONDAY, MARCH 13,1995 A regular meeting of the City of Temecula Community Services Commission was called to order on Monday, March 13, 1995,7:00 P.M., at Temecula City Hall Main Conference Room, 43174 Business Park Drive, Temecula, California. Chairman Henry Miller presiding. Chairman Miller led the flag salute. PRESENT: 4 COMMISSIONERS: Comerchero, Nimeshein, Soltysiak, Miller ABSENT: 1 COMMISSIONERS: Rund Also present were Community Services Director Shawn Nelson and Recording Secretary Gail Zigler. PRESENTATIONS Chairman Miller recognized the following groups/individuals for their contributions to the community: Boys and Girls Club of Temecula, accepted by Terry Gilmore Richard Long, Temecula Tritons President Temecula Tritons Swim Team Chairman Miller declared a recess at 7:07 P.M. to congratulate the recipients of the recognition awards. Commissioner Rund arrived at 7:07 P.M. PUBLIC COMMENTS None DIVISION REPORTS Maintenance Superintendent Bruce Hartley reported the following: Rancho California Sports Park winter renovations have been completed. ll:1MlNUTES\031)9'.CSC """ . . COMMUNITY SERVICES COMMISSION MARCH 13. 1995 Six bull pens have been installed and eight dugouts have been cemented as part of a cooperative agreement with the two Little League Divisions. Renovations will begin on the upper south soccer fields in March. The CRC pool is operating. The swim team is using the pool four nights a week. Staff has been trained to perform preventative maintenance on the pool. The department has added a weekend park aide to clean the restrooms and perform routine maintenance at the CRC. The City's first tree trimming contract is near completion. Staff is monitoring the work performed by the landscape maintenance construction contractors. Recreation Superintendent Herman Parker reported the following: Temecula is sponsoring an Inland Valley Municipal Athletic Youth Basketball tournament. Co-ed Volleyball begins March 18, 1995. Adult Baseball sign-ups will be held April 4, 1995. A stroke screening was held at the Old Town Senior Center on February 16, 1995, with approximately 65 participants. A regional AARP meeting was held at the Old Town Senior Center on March 2, 1995, with approximately 72 participants. Additional meetings will be held on the 4th Friday of each month. St. Patrick's Day Festivities will be held at the Old Town Senior Center from 10:30 - 1:30 on March 17, 1995. The City hosted a "Gang Awareness" workshop on February 27, 1995 at the CRC. Approximately 15 parents were in attendance. The 2/21/95 and 2/23/95 van excursions to the Date Festival were sold out. The 3/15/95 van excursion to Universal Studios is sold out. Marl!arita Park Site Proiect Committee Community Services Director Shawn Nelson asked for two representatives from the Commission to serve on the project committee for the Margarita Park site. Commissioner Comerchero and Chairman Miller both expressed interest in serving on the committee. It was moved by Commissioner Nimeshein, seconded by Commissioner Soltysiak to recommend Commissioner Comerchero and Chairman Miller serve as committee members for the Margarita Park site project. The motion carried as follows: AYES: 5 COMMISSIONERS: Comerchero, Nimeshein, Rund, Soltysiak, Miller NOES: o COMMISSIONERS: None ABSENT: o COMMISSIONERS: None 2. Canital Imnrovement Proiects Undate Director Nelson provided a status report on the following projects: Interim Fire Station - Dedication ceremony planned for March 31, 1995. Parkview Site Master Plan - Anticipate bidding first phase by August, 1995. Margarita Park Master Plan - Currently establishing a project committee. COMMUNITY SERVICES COMMISSION MARCH 13. 1995 Pala Road Park - Anticipate opening August, 1995. Rancho California Sports Park - Project is currently being advertised for bid. Sam Hicks Monument Park - Anticipate bidding project in April, 1995. Kent Hintergardt Memorial Park - Anticipate opening for public use by the end of March, 1995. Lorna Linda Park - Phase II improvements completed and open to the public. COMMUNITY SERVICES DIRECTOR'S REPORT Director Nelson reported the following: Apri110, 1995 Commission agenda items: ADA report Ideas and recommendations for naming of various city parks Agreement for acceptance of the Duck Pond as a city park site. Presented the Facilities Design Award which was presented to Mayor Jeff Stone and Community Services District President Ron Roberts at the CPRS conference in San Jose. Director Nelson advised that the award would be presented to the Mayor at the March 28, 1995 City Council meeting. Distributed literature on the annual League of California Cities Community Services Conference to be held April 5 - 7, 1995. Director Nelson asked the Commissioners to advise the Administrative Secretary as soon as possible if they are planning on attending the conference. COMMUNITY SERVICES COMMISSIONER REPORTS Chairman Miller advised that he attended the Board of Trustees meeting for the Museum Foundation and they accepted the Louis Wolfe Grave Site as a renovation project.
