The meeting was called to order by Mathew Fagan at 9:20 a.m.

Naurice, Cody, and Rumansoff presented a proposal they
have been working on for presentation to the City Council
for construction of a permanent museum building on Sam
Hicks Monument Park.
.
Considerable discussion ensued regarding orientation of
the proposed building and the old St. Catherine's Church.
Markham suggested running one wing of the building into a
proposed parking lot behind the new Senior Center build-
ing since the proposed parking was only one stall deep
and would probably not be used. This, due to the ground
elevations, would make it possible to have a basement in
the building for storage and mechanical equipment. This
would also leave more area for park development and the
City lot on 6th Street would provide adequate parking.
It was also suggested that the church building be rotated
to give it better visibility from the corner of Moreno
and Mercedes.
The need for skylights was questioned and, if required,
could be of the translucent bubble type which would ~ot
be as obtrusive as the proposed angle skylights.
The need for some sort of public restroom facilities was
emphasized to avoid people coming into the museum just to
use the toilets.
.
Markham was not happy with the proposed exterior treat-
ment of the proposed museum building and felt it needs to
convey more of a turn of the century feeling such as an

an adobe or Santa Fe appearance would be more suitable
for a civic building.
3. Fagan gave a status report in work and said the Senior
Center grand opening has been set for noon on Sep. 25th.
He reported that the funding for the Mercantile building
is still in process. Marianne Salazar the new code en-
forcement officer is still working her beat but has a
large area for one person to cover than one person can
adequately handle.
4. Fagan reported that Dave Hogan has met with the Directors
of both the TTA and OTTMA jointly to again go over the
Main Street Program and the draft bylaws. He said the
Specific Plan of Old Town will tentatively go before the
City Council on Oct. 20 and the implementation program
will be coming up for review.
~.
Morris said there is a real need for trash receptacles in
Old Town and for public restrooms. Harker was requested
to write to Dave Hogan and ask that these two items be
given first priority.
.
6.
It was agreed to leave implementation of the temporary
sign ordinance up to staff with periodic review by the
Board. Registration of signs will be brought before the
Coordinating Council meeting on Oct. 1.
7. There being no further business the meeting was
10:30 a.m. for a walking tour of Old Town.
NEXT MEETING WILL BE AT 9:00 A.M. ON MONDAY, OCTOBER 11, 1993
IN THE COMMUNITY CENTER BOARD ROOM, 28816 PUJOL STREET.
