A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
TEM[ECULA, CALIFORNU, REGARDING THE NAMING OF THE
"EASTS]IDE RESERVOIR" A.K.A. "LAKE DOMENIGONI," ITS DAMS
AND SURROUNDING FOCAL POINTS
VMEREAS, valley residents desire to preserve the historical name sake heritage of
the valley where the above referenced lake is being constructed, and simultaneously
recognize the importance of Metropolitan Water District's grand efforts; and,
VMEREAS, Metropolitan Water District has designated a "Facility Naming Ad Hoc
Committee" which is accepting suggestions; and,
"EREAS, the City Council desires to have a broader range of recognition for a
project of this scale than to acknowledge a single person:
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that the City Council recommends lake naming
as follows:
1.The three (3) dams each be named after a long-term influential Metropolitan Water
District (past or present) member of the board of Directors. The name "Boen Dam"
is hereby highly recommended for the East dam in recognition of Mr. Doyle Boen.
Mr. Boen has been a longstanding leader in Eastern Municipal Water as well as a
member of the Metropolitan Water District Board of Directors. He spent his major
working career years helping to guide and nurture the water agencies which we now
rely so heavily upon.
2.The current Metropolitan Water District Board of Directors should vote to designate
names for the "West Side Dam" and the "Saddle Dam" in a manner which shows
gratitude and recognition for other important past and present Metropolitan Water
District Board Members, Managers or Project Directors.
3.The heritage recognition of this areas's long standing name of the valley which will
house the new reservoir (lake) is of significant importance. Therefore, we strongly
feel that the "Domenigoni Valley" name be transferred to the reservoir using the
name "Lake Domenigoni.
Resos\96-04
4.The term "reservoir" is not appropriate to a body of water of such great magnitude.
We request that the term "Lake' be used in the final naming of this body of water.
5.The other great farming families who have lived on (and farmed hundreds of acres in)
this Domenigoni Valley area deserves heritage recognition. We recommend that the
East Side and West Side recreation areas respectively carry the names of the Searl
Ranch Recreation Area, and the Garbani Farms Recreation Area; and
6.Where the geographical terrain dictates a special geographical name for a cove, peak,
point, bay, etc., we feel that the Indian ancestry of this area should be recognized
through the naming of geographical points of interest in and around the main lake.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED, by the City Council of the City of
