2.1 BACKFILL OPERATIONS
The backfill operations consisted of the placement and compaction of the excavated
trench material. These native materials were moisture-conditioned to near optimum
moisture content, processed, and placed in lifts of 6-inches to 12-inches, then
compacted with mechanical equipment. The backfill and compaction operations were
performed in accordance with the minimum standards and requirements of the Eastern
Municipal Water District and the City of Temecula.
2.2 WORK DATES
This report represents geotechnical observations and testing during the construction
operations from September 1, 2004 through September ~;, 2004.
2.3 CONTRACTOR AND EQUIPMENT
The compaction operations were performed by Western Seven Corporation through
the use of one (1) excavator with sheepsfoot compaction wheel, one (1) front end
loader, one (1) backhoe and one (1) water truck,
3.0 TESTING
3.1 FIELD TESTING PROCEDURES
Field in-place density and moisture content testing were performed utilizing a nuclear
density gauge in general accordance with ASTM D 2922-96 and ASTM D 3017-96
respectively, Relative compaction test results were within the 90 percent required for all
material placed and compacted. Test results are presented in the Appendix of this
report, Fill depths and test locations (by station numbers when applicable) were
determined from review of the referenced improvement plans,
3.2 LABORATORY TESTING
The following laboratory tests were performed as part of our services during the
compaction operations for the subject project. The test results are presented in the
Appendix of this report,
3,2,1 MOiSTURE-DENSITY RELATIONSHIP TEST
Maximum dry density-optimum moisture content relationship tests were conducted on
samples of the materials used as backfill. The tests were performed in general
accordance with ASTM D 1557-00 procedures,
