Box 891989, Temecula, California 92589 (909) 699-5451 " June 18, 2000 Project No. 20205-01 John Gunderson 160 S. Santa Fe Hemet, California 92543 SUBJECT: REPORT OF OBSERVATION AND FIELD DENSITY TESTING ROUGH AND FINE GRADING Utility Pad and Drainaqe Area Backfill Lot 4, Tract 9833-3, Calle de Velardo Temecula, California Gentlemen: INTRODUCTION This report presents the results of our observation and testing performed during construction and grading for the drainge improvements and utility pad backfill. The utility pad was originally constructed during backfill of the drainge area when the adjoining site was graded in July 1999 (Earth Technics, 99209-01, Lot 5). The current pad fine grading and drainage culvert and facilities improvements and backfill was tested during the final week in May 2000. The results of our Field Density Tests obtained during grading are tabulated in Table I, Results of Compaction Tests. The approximate locations of the tests are shown on the Plot Plan, Plate 1. The 20-scale Grading Plans were prepared by Manning Engineering, Temecula, dated September 9, 1999, and were used to plot our data and guide the grading, along with field staking. proiect DescriDtion The grading in general consisted of reworking the existing fill, and constructing and backfilling the drainage facilities adjacent to Calle de Velardo. PurDose of Gradina The purpose of the grading was to construct a utility pad in the area of the former filled drainage, and construct drainage facilities in accordance with City of Temecula requirements. 1- o . 2000 4000 SCALE feet INDEX MAP "," 4 4 4 ,; : ~ .. ~/' 0 '0/ ~ ...~~ F ' /~ '\> / .<: N INDEX MAP OF LOT 4, TRACT 9833-3 CALLE DE VELARDO TEMECULA, RIVERSIDE COUNTY CALIFORNIA .3 SOURCE: U.S.G.S. 7J, MIN. QUAD. PECHANGA 1988 CPR 1988) 20205-01 Page J GRADING PROCEDURES Gradina procedures The existing fill and drainage swale was stripped of the light growth and grasses, in the areas to receive fill, and removed off-site. The areas to receive fill in the drainage swale were then over excavated 2 1/2 - 5 feet or until the dense underlying sedimentary bedrock was encountered. The fill materials were brought to near optimum moisture utilizing a 1.5 inch fire hose when necessary, and compacted with a caterpillar D6H bulldozer, and rubber-tired 966F front-end loader. The grading contractor was Gary Ingram, Temecula. TESTING Field Densitv Testina Field density testing was performed in accordance with ASTM D1556-64 (Sand Cone Method). The elevations and the results of the field density tests are presented in Table I of this report. The approximate location of the tests are shown on the Grading Plan, Plate 1. Maximum Densitv Determinations Maximum density/optimum moisture determinations were made from representative samples of on-site soils used in the fill operations. The tests were performed in accordance with ASTM D 1557 which consist of compacting 5 equal layers of soil in a 1/30 cubic foot volume mold with 25 blows of a 10 pound hammer falling 18 inches. The results of the Maximum density/optimum determination are presented herein as Table II, Laboratory Test Results. SUMMARY Our description of grading and backfill operations, as well as observations and testing services, were limited to those grading operations performed between May 22 and 31, 2000. The conclusions and recommendations contained herein have been based upon our observation and testing as noted. It is our opinion, that the work preformed in the areas denoted has generally been accomplished in accordance with the recommendations of the U.B.C. Appendix Chapter 33, the Riverside County Grading Code, as amended by Ordinance No. 457 specifications, and the requirements of the regulating agencies and is acceptable.for its intended purpose. ~ 20205-01 Page 4 No conclusions or warranties are made for areas not tested or observed.
