1.0 PROJECT LOCATION AND DESCRIPTION
1.1 PROJECT LOCATION
The subject projects are located along Meadows Parkway north of the intersection of
Meadows Parkway and Rancho California Road, in the City of Temecula, County of
Riverside, California,
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The subject project consisted of the installation of 6485 linear feet of 24-inch CM&L
concrete water main and associated appurtenances along the subject road.

2.0 SCOPE OF WORK
The scope of work performed by this office consisted of "part-time" field observations
and in-place density testing during the trench backfill operations on an "on-call" basis.
2.1 BACKFILL OPERATIONS
The backfill operations consisted of the placement and compaction of the excavated
trench material. These native materials were moisture-conditioned to near optimum
moisture content, processed, and placed in lifts of 6-inches to 12-inches, then
compacted with mechanical equipment. The backfill and compaction operations were
performed in accordance with the minimurn standards and requirements of Rancho
California Water District and the City of Temecula, California.
2.2 WORK DATES
This report represents geotechnical observations and testing during the construction
operations from November 15,1999 through December 7,1999.
2.3 CONTRACTOR AND EQUIPMENT
The compaction operations were performed by Genesis Construction through the use
of one (1) excavator with sheepsfoot, one (1) backhoe, one (1) front end loader, one (1)
motor grader, and one (1) 2,000 gallon water tank,
3.0 TESTING
3.1 FIELD TESTING PROCEDURES
Field in-place density and moisture content testing were performed utilizing a nuclear
density gauge in general accordance with ASTM-D-2922-81-90 and ASTM-D-3017-88
respectively.
Relative compaction test results were within the 90 percent required for all material
placed and compacted, Test results are presented in the Appendix of this report. Fill
depths and test locations (by station numbers when applicable) were determined from
review of the referenced improvement plans,
3.2 LABORATORY TESTING
The following laboratory tests were performed as part of our services during the
compaction operations for the subject project. The test results are presented in the
Appendix of this report.

3.2.1 MOISTURE-DENSITY RELATIONSHIP TEST
Maximum dry density - optimum moisture content relationship tests were conducted on
samples of the materials used as backfill. The tests were performed in general
accordance with ASTM 01557-91 procedures. The test results are presented in the
Appendix of this report under the Summary of Optimum Moisture Content I Maximum
Dry Density Relationship Test Results.
4.0 EARTH MATERIALS
The natural earth materials encountered on-site generally consisted of sands with
various percentages of SiH.
5.0 CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
5.1 GENERAL
Based on the observations and tests performed during the backfilling operations, the
subject backfill in the areas tested has been compacted in accordance with Rancho
California Water District's Plans and Specifications and the grading Code of the City
of Temecula.
6.0 CLOSURE
This report has been prepared for use by the parties or project named or described
above. It rnay or may not contain sufficient information for other parties or purposes.
The findings and recommendations expressed in this report are based on field and
laboratory testing performed during the backfill operation and on generally accepted
engineering practices and principles, No further warranties are implied or expressed
beyond the direct representations of this report.
