1,0 Site Description and Proposed Development:
1.1 General: The subject property is located on Via Norte in
the Meadowviewarea of Riverside County.
1.2 Proposed Development: The proposed site is to be developed
into a single and/or two story wood framed, slab on grade
residential structure.
1.3 Existina Topoaraphy and Site Conditions: At the time of
grading, the topography was gently sloping. The site was
covered by a light growth of native vegetation.

2.0 pcope of work:
2.1 ~radina Operations: The grading operation consists of a
cut, fill and export operation. Excavations were made on
the northwest portion of the pad. Some material was
exported off-site, the rest was used to fill the southern
portion of the proposed pad (see site plan). Clean-outs of
unsuitable materials were performed at the toe of proposed
fill slopes to a depth determined by a Staff Engineering
Geologist. Detailed information on fill depths is included
on the site plan. Compaction tests are representative of
all fill placed during the grading operation on August 5,
1988 to August 10, 1988. Export material was placed on Lot
205 of Tract 3883. A separate report (Job Number
2BOO-C-88) was prepared for the export site.
2.2 Site Plan: The attached Compaction Test Report Site Plan
(Figure 1) represents the location of field density tests
and approximate limits of fill. The site plan was adapted
from field observation and the Grading plan provided by the
Client dated June 29, 1988.
2.3 Contractor and Eauipment: The grading operations were
performed through the use of a track mounted D-B dozer and
a water hose.

2.4 Site Preparation: The base of the fill slope was keyed and
benched into firm native soil. Deleterious and organic
materials were removed prior to placement of fill. In
addition. the subsoils were scarified a minimum of 12
inches below the exposed surface, and compacted to a
minimum of ninety percent of the relative maximum density
potential, in accordance with State and County standards.
Compaction as accomplished by placement of fill material in
depths of six to eight inches (see Exhibit II).
2;5 Testinq: Field compaction testing was performed in
accordance with ASTM-D-1556-70 and ASTM-D-2922-81.
Laboratory "proctors" (Maximum Density - Optimum Moisture
Content Relationships), were performed in accordance with
ASTM-D-1557.
3.0 Earth Materials:
3.1 Natural Earth Materials: The natural earth materials
encountered during grading consist of brown silt sand
mixture.
3.2 Structure Location: Should the proposed structure location
transverse the daylight line between cut and fill, this
office should be notified so that supplemental
recommendations can be given. No conditions were observed
during construction grading which would indicate a hazard
from a soil mechanics standpoint.

4.0 Foundation Recommendations:
4.1 Expansive Soils: Representative soil samples were
retrieved upon completion of grading for expansive soil
swell testing. The swell test procedure utilized was the
Uniform Building Code Test Designation Standard 29.2. The
material tested consisted of silty sand.
4.2 Expansion Index: The samples tested registered an
expansion index of 06, .Very Low. expansive potential. Our
enclosed "suggested Guidelines for Design of Foundation and
Slab Systems"' should be referenced concerning design of
on-site foundations for single and two story wood-framed
strucures.
4.3 Steel Reinforcement:
Based on the swell index, steel
reinforcement is not mandatory for proposed footings and
slab areas.
It is suggested, however, that minimal
reinforcement be provided in all footings and slabs.
Minimal reinforcement should consist of one *4 steel bar
located mid depth within the footings. Steel reinforcement
within the footings shall be no nearer than 3 inches to any
concrete surface. Minimum slab reinforcement should
consist of 10.x10., #10x#10 gauge welded wire fabric placed
mid-depth.
4.4 Foundation Guidelines: The foundation guidelines are for
expansive soil conditions only and should not preclude more

ridged structural requirements. The project engineer
should be consulted to confirm adequete structural
reinforcement.
5.0 Conclusions and Recommendations:
5,,1 General: Laboratory and field testing results indicate
relative densities greater than 90 percent within the
referenced fill portion of the subject pad to date.
5:2 Gradino Performed: Grading performed on the subject pad
area of the referenced property meets the minimum standards
and requirements of the Riverside County Building and
Safety Department and utilized standard engineering
principals and practices as observed by this firm.
5.3 Soil Conditions: The recommendations made are based on
soil conditions only and should not preclude more ridged
structural requirements. The project structural engineer
should .be consulted to confirm adequate structural
reinforcements.
The findings and recommendations expressed in this report are
based on field and laboratory testing performed during the
referenced grading operation and no warranty is expressed or
implied beyond the direct representations of this report.
