INTRODUCTION
A large, existing building pad area was extended out approximately 5 feet along
the west and south side of the building pad. A 15-foot wide keyway was excavated 6 feet
in depth down to solid bedrock formation. The keyway bottom was sloped into the fill
slope and properly moistened and scarified prior to the fill emplacement. The existing
building pad was cut about 6 inches' to provide the necessary fill soils. The new fill area
soils were emplaced in 6 to 8 lifts at optimum moisture and were continuously track
rolled, resulting in 90% relative compaction for all test results.
An area extending 5 feet beyond the proposed residential structure was
overexcavated 36 inches below the existing grade and then recompacted to 90% relative
compaction test results.

GENERAl "LABORA TORY TESTING
Maximum density detenninations were made on the typical structural fill soils, as
accepted by the Uniform Building Code and the County of Riverside grading ordinances.
The maximum density detenninations were made in accordance with A.S.T.M. D1557-
70T, modified to use 25 blows on each of five layers with a 10-pound hammer falling 18
inches in a mold of 1/30 cubic foot volume.
Soil Type I: Tan-brown fine sand and silt with minor clay component; SM and
SC according to U.S.C.S.; Maximum Density 128.1 p.c.f.. @ 9.0% Optimum
Moisture.
FIELD COMPACTION TESTING
The results of relative compaction testing throughout the building pad area were in
all instances at least 90010 of the maximum soil density values obtained for Soil Type A,
. based on the results of the Drive Cylinder Method D2937-71.

The new, extended fill 'slope areawas properly keyed in and the resulting fill soils
were emplaced in 6-inch to 8-inch lifts using native soils mixed to optimum moisture.
A 3-foot overexcavation on the existing building pad extended 5 feet beyond the
proposed residence. The fill soils were re-compacted and tested for compaction.
All field inspections, laboratory work and structural analysis has been completed in
accordance with the U.B.C. and with generally accepted engineering code~ and.
ordinances.
