At your request, Petra Geotechnical, Inc. (Petra) has prepared this report addressing
additional fill placement on Lot I within Tract 26828-] located in the City of
Temecula, Califomia. Petra provided geotechnical observation and testing services
during rough-grading operations. This letter is submitted as a supplement to the
above-referenced repOli of rough grading.
Initial grading within Lot 1 was performed in conjunction with the mass-grading of
Tracts 26828, 26828-1 and 26828-2 and reported in Petra's referenced rough-
grading report (Petra, 2003b). Since the completion of rough grading, Lot ] had
remained essentially unchanged. The recent grading was performed to modify lot
drainage and consisted of raising the lot grade approximately 4 feet above the

initial finished grade elevation. The site preparation, fill placement and compaction
were observed and tested by a Petra representative
SUMMARY OF EARTHWORK
OBSERVATIONS AND DENSITY TESTING
Fill Placement and Testing
Site preparation included the removal of minor surficial debris and vegetation.
Subsequent to site preparation, the upper 6 inches of the exposed fill sub grade was
scarified and watered as necessary to achieve a moisture content near optimum and
then compacted by rolling with a sheepsfoot-drum compactor. Fill was placed in 6-
to 8-inch thick lifts and moisture-conditioned to achieve a moisture content near or
above optimum and compacted by rolling with a sheepsfoot-drum compactor and
heavy pneumatic-wheel equipment. Field moisture density tests were obtained
during and subsequent to fill placement in order to determine in-situ dry density,
moisture content and relative compaction.
Field density and moisture content tests were performed in accordance with
nuclear-gauge test methods ASTM D2922 and D3017. The results of the
compaction field moisture density tests indicate that the fill was compacted to 90
percent or more relative compaction. field density test results are presented in the
attached Table 1. Test locations are shown on the enclosed Density Test Location
Map (Figure I).

LABORATORY TESTING
Maximum Drv Density
The maximum dry density and optimum moisture content of a representative
sample of the fill soil were determined in our laboratory in accordance with ASTM
D1557. Pertinent test values are summarized in the attached Table 11.
Expansion Index
An expansion index test was perfol111ed on a representative sample of the fill soil
near finish-pad grade. This test was perfol111ed in accordance with ASTM D4829.
Test results are summarized in the attached Table IlL
Based on the results of our observations and testing, it is concluded that the recent
grading within Lot within of Tract 26828-1 was perfol111ed in conformance with the
recommendations presented in Petra's referenced geotechnical investigation repOli
and the City of Temecula grading code.
CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
The results of our observations and the expansion index test indicate that the onsite
soils placed during the recent grading for Lot I within Tract 26828-1 are similar to
those tested during the initial grading. Therefore the recommendations presented in
our referenced report of rough grading, (Petra 2003b) for Lot I within
Tract 26828-1 remain valid.
