CITY OF TEMECULA
AGENDA REPORT
TO: Community Services Commission
FROM: Herman D. Parker, Director of Community Services'.
DATE: July 13, 2009
SUBJECT: City of Temecula Summer Camp Program Update
RECOMMENDATION: That the Community Services Commission receive and file the report on
the summer camp programs offered by the City of Temecula.
DISCUSSION: Each year the Community Services Department hosts a variety of
Summer Camp programs throughout the City. This year's camp offerings included:
*Little Tot Chef School
*TVCD Dance Camp
*Temecula Valley Children's Chorus Camp
*Beginner Golf Camp
*Multisport Camp
*Wonders Science and Science and Math Camps
Just to name a few
In addition, there is the very popular Summer Explorers Camp held at the Temecula Valley Museum.
This camp offers theme weeks providing children ages 8-10 years and understanding of local, natural
and social history of Temecula.
Our most successful program is the Summer Day Camp program held at the Community Recreation
Center. The program attracts youngsters between the ages of 5 and 12 years of age, as well as a
smaller camp program which focuses on young teens. The Summer Day Camp programs provide an
opportunity for youth and teens to socialize, recreate and engage in positive social interactions in a
safe environment during the summer months.
Tonight, Wendell Ott, Museum Manager, Jeff Lawrence, Recreation Supervisor and Josiah Cooper,
Day Camp Director, will provide a brief overview of the day camp programs and operations.

CITY OF TEMECULA
AGENDA REPORT
TO: Community Services Commission
FROM: Herman D. Parker, Director of Community Service
DATE: July 13, 2009
SUBJECT: 2009 Summer Sunsets Film and Concert Series
PREPARED BY: Gail Zigler, Administrative Assistant
RECOMMENDATION: That the Community Services Commission receive and file the report on
the 2009 Summer Sunsets Film and Concert Series.
DISCUSSION: The annual Summer Sunsets Film and Concert Series is currently
underway with two concerts held and our first Movie in the Park held in conjunction with the Aglow in
the Park event. Attendance at the concerts has been at capacity. We offer free face painting a
balloon art to the children and one and a half hours of quality musical entertainment. We anticipate
our largest crowds on July 16th for the Neil Diamond Tribute and July 30th for the Stevie Nicks
tribute.
The movie series began this past Friday, July 10th. We kicked off our movies in the park series in
conjunction with the "Aglow in the Park" event. This is the third year for this combined event and it is
very well received by the community. The feature film was Kung Fu Panda. The event offered
Panda themed crafts, games and raffle prizes, and a martial arts exhibition from a local martial arts
studio was provided prior to the start of the movie. Live music by the Answer Band and food vendors,
and a hot air balloon glow were all part of this great event. One of the highlight's at this year's event
was the "Make Your Own Banana Split - BYOB" booth operated by the Temecula's Youth Advisory
Kouncil also known as YAK. Teens participated in the event by operating the banana split booth with
teens taking turns wearing a gorilla costume and handing out free bananas to the children in the
audience who in turn could take their bananas to the booth and make a banana split for $1. A great
time was had by all!
Movies will continue to be held at various park sites in the community through August 21st. Two of
the movies events will be held in conjunction with our monthly Family Fun Night events. These movie
nights will offer additional themed crafts, games and activities to go with the title of the movie.
