AGENDA REPORT
TO: Community Services Commission
FROM: Kevin L. Hawkins, Director of Community Services
DATE: October 14, 2013
SUBJECT: PARK RANGER PROGRAM UPDATE
PREPARED BY: Julie Pelletier, Recreation Superintendent
RECOMMENDATION: Receive and file this report
DISCUSSION: In 2007, the City of Temecula hired two staff members and began the
Park Ranger Program. The primary objective of the program is to provide citizens with
ambassadors representing the City within the park setting. The purpose of the program is to monitor
park use and to provide citizens with valuable information and resources regarding the City's park
system. The Park Rangers are also responsible for helping residents understand the established
park rules and regulations as part of their outreach duties.
Within the City of Temecula's twenty-six mile radius there are thirty-nine City maintained parks, ten
City-operated facilities and numerous City-sponsored special events that all benefit from the support
provided by the Park Rangers: The Park Rangers are scheduled to work both day and evening
shifts to patrol the parks, and have the authority to issue citations as deemed appropriate.
This evening, Park Rangers Phillip Jackson and Sergio Raya will provide an overview and additional
information regarding the Park Ranger Program.
