HomeMy WebLinkAbout040214 Soutwest Riverside Autism Task Force Action Minutes MEETING NOTICE ACTION MINUTES SOUTHWEST RIVERSIDE AUTISM TASK FORCE CITY OF TEMECULA—CONFERENCE CENTER 41000 MAIN STREET TEMECULA, CA 92590 WEDNESDAY, APRIL 2, 2014 6:30 PM CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order at 6:45 pm ROLL CALL: Southwest Riverside Autism Task Force Members: Mike Naggar, Council Member, City of Temecula Bridgette Moore, Council Member, City of Wildomar Shellie Milne, Mayor Pro Tern, City of Hemet Other Elected Officials and Staff present: Maryann Edwards, Mayor, City of Temecula Kevin Hawkins, Director, Temecula Community Services Department Yvette Martinez, Inclusion Services Specialist Candice Adkisson-Flohr, Recreation Supervisor Mary Takavorian, Recreation Leader Betsy Lowrey, Senior Management Analyst Andrew Vordahl, Recreation Assistant Jonathan Hall, IT Specialist Vanessa Munoz, Intern PUBLIC COMMENTS COMMITTEE BUSINESS 1) Welcome: • Mayor Maryann Edwards provided welcoming words. 2) April is Autism Awareness Month/Light it Up Blue Campaign - Guest Speaker, Mark Anselmo, Our Nicholas Foundation: • Mark Anselmo spoke about Autism. 3) City of Temecula Special Needs Events — Yvette Martinez, Inclusion Services Specialist and Candice Adkisson-Flohr, Recreation Supervisor: • Yvette Martinez and Candice Adkisson-Flor provided a presentation on inclusion services to the Autism Task Force. 4) Update on Autism Issues, including Disneyland Disability Access Service Card: • Council Member Mike Naggar provided an update about the Disneyland Disability Access Card program and discussed it with the audience. 5) Closing Remarks (Reminder: Light it Up Blue Event): • Shellie Milne, Mayor Pro Tem, City of Hemet, discussed Hemet Special Needs Registry and Special Needs Fine Art Exhibit in Hemet. • Bridgette Moore, Council Member, City of Wildomar, discussed Wildomar's parks re-opening and a planned "all-inclusive" egg hunt, as well as fundraising for a wheelchair swing. • Council Member Naggar requested Mark Anselmo and Yvette Martinez to follow up about Hemet Special Needs Registry with Sheriff's department; and for the audience to ensure their elected officials are aware of special needs presence; and adjourned the meeting to view City Hall lit up blue.
