HomeMy WebLinkAbout040715 Economic Development Committee Action MinutesACTION MINUTES ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE GREAT OAK CONFERENCE ROOM 41000 MAIN STREET TEMECULA, CALIFORNIA TUESDAY, APRIL 7, 2015 4:00 PM ROLL CALL: Mayor Jeff Comerchero Council Member Maryann Edwards Aaron Adams, City Manager STAFF PRESENT: Greg Butler, Assistant City Manager Kevin Hawkins, Community Services Director Jennifer Hennessy, Finance Director Christine Damko, Economic Development Analyst Cheryl Kitzerow, Economic Development Analyst Dawn Adamiak, Recreation Supervisor Gail Zigler, Senior Recreation Supervisor COMMITTEE BUSINESS Review of Economic Development Sponsorship Applications for FY 2014-2015: Reviewed and discussed applications and recommended approval of Sponsorship requests (see Sponsorship Chart attached). Mayor Comerchero abstained and left the room for the Temecula Valley Wine Growers Association. City Manager Aaron Adams left the room when discussing the Temecula Valley Convention and Visitor's Bureau. EDC Membership – Staff recommended supporting the Membership for FY 2015- 16 for consideration with the EDC focus on Foreign Affairs. Komen Race for the Cure – Committee supported in-kind support costs valued at $18,828.00, but did not support $22,500 cash payment, advising funds should be kept local in Temecula. There are a few new events that are asking for in-kind support costs/in-kind marketing only: Tough Mudder SoCal –Will be the 5th Tough Mudder event held at Vail Lake Resort in Temecula. The event is a 1-12 mile muddy, military stile obstacle course challenge which promotes courage, personal accomplishment, teamwork, and fun. They are asking for $10,000 for operational support and in- kind marketing. Staff recommended no City support, committee agreed. Salute to Heroes Charity Cycle and Glow Fest– Veterans Supplemental Support Network with its partnering members from Jax's Bikes, the Bike Shop and many of its community partners will host the second annual Salute to Heroes Bike Shop. The event features a 15, 30 and 60 mile course. The Event is planned at Town Square Park and end in the parking lot of Stampede. They are asking for $2,500 to help with event cost plus an in-kind waiver of city fees, use of Town Square, Conference Center and street closures. Staff recommended no City support, Committee agreed. Old Town Temecula Grand Prix and Health Fair — The event will feature an Old Town Temecula Grand Prix(Cycling Criterium/Bike Race associated with the National Criterium Circuit of USA Cycling) and a Learn to Live to 100 Health Fair. They are requesting to waive Venue Permit Fees, provide in -services of Police and Fire, Public Works (e.g. Directional signs, Course Construction, Crow Control fencing) and marketing. Staff recommends no City Support, Committee agreed. 2. Rod Run Update: Committee recommended the City continue to put on the FY 2015-16 event.
