DISCUSSION: The Community Services Department has implemented a pilot
program at the Old Town Temecula Senior Center to offer employment opportunities to
developmentally challenged young people. In conjunction with the State Department of
Rehabilitation and the Valley Resource Center, the City of Temecula has placed employees
in jobs that will provide custodial, pool, and landscape maintenance services.
Two of the employees, Phillip Calender and Elias Torres, have been working five mornings
each week at the Senior Center for the past two months with great success. They have
been well received by the seniors and have provided quality maintenance to the Senior

The Community Services Department is encouraged by the results of the program so far
and is looking forward to continued success with this cost effective method of providing
