The meeting was called to order at 4:05 pm.

COMMITTEE BUSINESS
1. Cancer Patient and Caregiver Testimonials: Sarah Sluder, Carole Conrad, and Janna
Duffy provided information about their journey and reasons for leaving the region for cancer
care.
2. Presentations by Professionals regarding Regional Needs Assessment of Cancer
Care: Salomeh Wagaw (County Public Health Epidemiologist) provided a presentation on
demographics and epidemiology data of cancer in Riverside County and in Temecula; Kim
Goodnough (Michelle's Place) provided a presentation regarding cancer care needs in the
region; Susan Heppner (American Cancer Society) provided a presentation on cancer
resources available in the region; Dr. Bruce Hayton provided a presentation on existing
cancer care services in the region; and Dr. David Horner provided a presentation that
discussed an informal survey he conducted regarding cancer care in the region.
I Open Discussion: Discussion ensued regarding hiring of a consultant to conduct a
comprehensive assessment of cancer care in Southwest Riverside County; researching
community models; hiring a professional facilitator; identifying financial resources from Task
Force members (and following up with WRCOG for grant funding), and creating a contact
list. The Task Force agreed to meet again on January 19, 2017 with more information
regarding these topics.
