Dear Mr. Kramer: In accordance with your request, EnGEN Corporation has conducted R -Value testing of the subgrade soils proposed for the street improvements on Winchester Road and Dendy Parkway at the above referenced site. The recommended pavement design is based on R -Value test results from samples of subgrade material obtained by a representative of EnGEN Corporation on September 18, 2000 and September 20, 2000, from locations designated during field operations and review of the referenced grading plan in proposed pavement areas. The results of the R -Value tests indicate a9[me antl{8H ' - 4 .+sa ws?u'moamnaana¢o,,gnnere ' _-„.,-- i }tlanssma>n6aemrsmuSLcEogasdffin6fi'suns3m5}£se8aioa • • MS Temecula It, LLC Project Number: T2133 -C January 2001 Page 2 R -Values ranging from 36 to 60. The R -Value tests were performed in general accordance with California Test Method 301 procedures. Two soil types were encountered on the site, Pauba Formation Bedrock and engineered fill. Bedrock was encountered on Winchester Road between Remington Avenue and Dendy Parkway (Sta. 40+09 to- Sta. 46+75), and on Dendy Parkway from Sta. 10+00 to Sta. 20+50 (approximately). The bedrock was found to have an R - Value of 60. Engineered fill was encountered on Dendy Parkway from Sta. 20+50 to Sta. 28+75. (approximately), the fill was found to have an R -Value of 36. The test results are attached. A Traffic Index (TI) of 10 was used for the pavement design. Asphalt concrete pavement materials should be as specified in Sections 203-6 of the Standard Specifications for Public Works Construction (Green Book) or an approved equivalent. Aggregate base should conform to 3/4 -inch crushed aggregate base as specified in Section 200-2.2 of Standard Specifications for Public Works Construction (Green Book) or an approved equivalent. To properly prepare the subgrade, the soil should be recompacted to a minimum 90 percent relative compaction, to a minimum depth of 12 -inches below finish subgrade elevation. The aggregate base material should be compacted to at least 95 percent relative compaction. Maximum dry density and optimum moisture content for subgrade and aggregate base materials should be determined according to ASTM D1557-91 (98) procedures. If pavement subgrade soils are prepared and aggregate base material is not placed immediately, or the aggregate base material is placed and the area is not paved immediately, additional observations and testing will be required prior to placing aggregate base material or asphaltic EnGEN Corporation ;;t C MS Temecula II, LLC Project Number: T2133 -C January 2001 Page 3 concrete to locate areas that may have been damaged by construction traffic, construction activities, and/or seasonal wetting and drying.
