HomeMy WebLinkAbout052517 Regional Cancer Treatment Task Force Action Minutes ACTION MINUTES REGIONAL CANCER TREATMENT TASK FORCE CONFERENCE CENTER 41000 MAIN STREET TEMECULA, CALIFORNIA THURSDAY, MAY 25, 2017 4:00 PM CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order at 4:20 p.m. by Temecula Council Member Mike Naggar ROLL CALL: City of Temecula: Mayor Maryann Edwards, Council Member Mike Naggar City of Murrieta: Mayor Rick Gibbs City of Menifee: Council Member Lesa Sobek City of Wildomar: Mayor Timothy Walker Michelle's Place: Marilyn Watson, President, Kim Goodnough, Executive Director Inland Empire Health Plan (IEHP): Victoria Ostermann Loma Linda University Medical Center: Cheryl Allred, Radiology Director Scripps Health: Alice Feng, Senior Director of Corporate Business Development Local Medical Doctors: Dr. Amy Bremner, Dr. Arun Kalra, Dr. Kishore Sehgal (standing in for Dr. Evelyn Mendoza) PUBLIC COMMENTS • None COMMITTEE BUSINESS 1. Cancer Patient/Caregiver Testimonial: David Barragan shared his experience with cancer (throat cancer), and as a caregiver for his mother (ovarian cancer) and his father- in-law (lung cancer). 2. Legislative Update: Deferred until Staff Report 3. Understanding Insurance/Medicare: Scott Breitfuss has been working in insurance since 1991, and gave an overview of the Medicare insurance and issues with prescription drug costs. Specialty drugs are only covered -30-33% co-insurance. Medicare part B Plan is 20% co-insurance, that is standardized in each plan. Insurance is not affordable for cancer. It was suggested that Scott provide literature for future meetings that simplifies various Parts of Medicare (sorts out the various parts: A, B, D, etc.), and he said he would be willing to do so. 4. Formation of Subcommittees Discussion: Erica Russo clarified that Task Force currently has pledges from the County of Riverside, the Cities of Temecula, Lake Elsinore, Murrieta, and Menifee, and IEHP totaling $82,000. Erica Russo and Jenna LeComte- Hinely provided an overview of proposed subcommittee topics. A more detailed email will clarify information and time expectations for each subcommittee to help Task Force
