COMMITTEE BUSINESS
1. Cancer Patient/Caregiver Testimonial: Caregiver Bill Dawson, shared his experience as a
caregiver for his wife, who was diagnosed with breast cancer. Cancer Survivor Jami
McNees shared her experience as a cancer survivor and insurance agent.
2. CHNA Results: Jenna LeComte-Hinely, HARC: Dr. LeComte-Hinely presented a summary
of main findings from the CHNA report. Research findings suggest the average length of
treatment was seven months from start to finish of diagnoses. Only 6% of patients had
participated in a clinical trial. Approximately 26% had to travel 50 miles or more to receive
treatment. The most common reason for choosing a treatment location was due to
insurance coverage. Some top issues in cancer care locally include lack of accredited
cancer centers, lack of specialized care (depending on which specialty), and high cost of
treatment. Discussion ensued that the quality cancer care in this region is not as well-
known as it should be and the local quality care and resources should be better spotlighted.
3. Next Steps: Jenna LeComte-Hinely, HARC: The November meeting will include a discussion
of the next steps and ideas. Discussion ensued regarding a Resource Guide and Economic
