In accordance with your request, GeoSoils, Inc. (GSI) performed a foundation plan review
and presented a report with its findings on January 30, 1996 (reference no. 3), copy
attached. In that report, it was indicated that the reviewed plans appeared to be in general
conformance with the recommendations presented in the GSI, Lot Recertification Report
(reference no. 2) with one exception regarding the tying of column footings by means of
grade beams. It was requested that the structural engineer determine whether or not such
beams were required, from a structural viewpoint, due to their location within the slab. This
determination has now been made by the structural engineer, Harry Deardorff, and
presented in an updated handwritten memo, copy attached, which indicates that the slab-
on-grade will do the job of the recommended grade beams. Therefore, our
recommendations have been met regarding this matter.

Although the reviewed Foundation Plans indicated that a rock base was to be used under
the proposed slabs, the type of rock to be used was not specified. Because of this reason,
the January 30, 1996 report (reference no. 3), also presented a recommendation regarding
the type of rock base to be used under slabs. Although the recommendation to place a
rock base under the slab did not originate from GSI, our Foundation Plan report did not
ask that the recommended rock base be deleted because its placement should enhance
the long-term performance of the slab. During a telephone conversation with the project
structural engineer, it was learned that the rock base recommendation may have been
presented in the original site investigation report by others (Schaefer Dixon Associates).
The ultimate decision on whether or not the rock base is placed should be made by the
structural engineer, based on the expected slab loads, and by the property owner, based
on the desired long-term performance of the slab.
The opinions and recommendations presented herein have been derived in accordance
with current standards of practice and no warranty is expressed or implied. GeoSoils, Inc.

In accordance with your authorization and request, we have reviewed the following project
plans, prepared by Deardorff & Deardorff: S1.0 (Revised October 11, 1995), and S2.0,
S2.3, and S4.0 (Revised January 8, 1996) with respect to conformance with
recommendations as presented in the above referenced report (GeoSoils, Inc., 1995).
Our review indicates that the plans appear to be in general conformance with the
recommendations presented in the aforementioned report (GeoSoils, Inc., 1995) from a
geotechnical viewpoint, with the following exception:
On Item No. 4 (Page 7) of the report, it is recommended that a grade
beam be provided between column footings. The reviewed plans do
not appear to reflect this recommendation. However, it may be
possible that due to the size, type and location of the column footings,
tieing them by means of a grade beam to prevent lateral movement
might not be necessary. The project structural engineer should make
the final determination on the need for these structural members.

Also, Plan S2.0 indicates that a "5 inch concrete slab with #3 bars at 18" O.C., each way,
centered on slab will be placed over a base of crushed rock. Neither the thickness nor type
of rock are specified in the plans. It is recommended that Class 2 aggregate base
materials (or equivalent), compacted to a minimum relative compaction of 95 percent, be
used. The thickness of the rock should be determined by the structural engineer based
on the expected loads and conditions, but experience has shown that it is not practical to
place and compact a base layer of less than 4 inches.

with current standards of practice, and no warranty is expressed or implied. GeoSoils, Inc.

In accordance with your authorization and request, this letter presents our evaluation of the
materials that are proposed to be imported to the subject site. The borrow site is lot 32 of
Tract 21383, Phase 1, and is located adjacent to the subject site.
We have performed a site rec onnaissanoe of the import site and taken bulk soil samples.
The import site appears to be underlain by artificial fill materials placed during tract grading.
The proposed import material is considered suitable for placement on the proposed site,
and our laboratory testing indicates that the materials have a low expansion potential
(expansion index 24). The fill material should be cleansed of major vegetation and debris
prior to placement. In addition, if any oversized materials (materials greater than 12
inches) are encountered during import, they should be removed from the import material
prior to placement on the site or during placement on the site.
These opinions and recommendations presented herein have been derived in accordance
with current standards of practice, and no warranty is expressed or implied. GeoSoils, Inc.
assumes no liability or responsibility for work, testing, or recommendations performed or
