A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF TEMECULA APPROVING AN AGREEME~ TO
PARTICIPATE IN A JOINT TRAFFIC SAFETY PROJECT
WITH THE CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY PATROL, THE
RIVERSIDE SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT AND OTHER
SOUTHWEST RIVERSIDE COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT
AGENCIES
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TEMECULA DOES RESOLVE,
DETERMINE AND ORDER AS FOLLOWS:
WHEREAS, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) is an operating department within the
Business, Transportation, and Housing Agency having authority and responsibilities established
in the California Vehicle Code; and
WHEREAS, the overall purpose of the Department, as a principal criminal justice
agency is to ensure safety, security and service to the public through accident prevention,
emergency incident/traffic management, law enforcement, assistance to other public agencies and
to maximize service to the public in need of aid or information; and
WHEREAS, between 1986 and 1993, the southwest portion of Riverside County,
Temecula Valley, has grown by approximately 302 percent; and
WHEREAS, along with the population growth the infrastructure consisting of freeways,
city streets, and county highways has also grown, bringing an increase in fatalities and injuries
resulting from traffic accidents; and
WHEREAS, law enforcement agencies in the area consisting of the CLIP, Riverside
County Sheriff's Department, Temecula Police Department, Murrieta Police Department and
Lake Elsinore Police Department wish to cooperate in a program funded by a Federal Grant to
address traffic safety with major emphasis on (DUI) enforcement; and
WHEREAS, the City of Temecula, desires to participate in this program;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Temecula
as follows:
Section 1. The City approves the filing of a standard agreement with the California
Highway Patrol.
Section 2. The City authorizes the Chief of Police to execute the necessary agreements
for administration of the traffic safety program.

Section 3. The City Clerk shall certify to the passage and adoption of the Resolution.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED, by the City Council of the City of Temecula
at a regular meeting held on the 23rd day of May, 1995.
