Board Discussion
a. Sign Standards
The Board reviewed the April 20th minutes and recommended the following to be incorporated to
the Ordinance:
iv.
Vo
Painted wall signs shall include outlining or shadowing.
Artistic renderings are encouraged with the motif of the building.
If a business sells display flags, they shall be permitted to display one outside their
building.
The location and design of wall and freestanding signs shall be approved with the
Development Plan application for the structure.
All signs painted on wood shall have a painted border on the wood panel. In
addition, shadowing or outlining shall also be included.
Vinyl banners shall be permitted.
In addition, the Board had the following concerns which are already part of City Ordinances or
policies:
vii. Special holiday decoration shall be removed after a reasonable period of time.
viii. Temporary signs should be permitted for a reasonable time prior to erecting the
permanent wall signs.
ix. Standards should be included to maintain signs.
x. In addition to appropriate City approvals, all signs shall also be approved by the
property owner.
xi. Temporary signs should be removed.
xii. Number of signs permitted for each business should remain to unlimited with the
amount signage only limited by the square footage (No change is necessary to the
ordinance)
Furthermore, the Board directed staff to research the following:
Staff should examine the cost between a vinyl lettered sign with a border, outlining,
and shadowing and just a painted wood sign. If the price differential is not great,
the vinyl lettering should be prohibited. The Specific Plan (Page IV-47) does not
specifically permit vinyl lettering.

the City.
