CALLTO ORDER: FLAG SALUTE: ROLLCALL: PRESENTATIONS: Chairman Tom Edwards Commissioner Hogan Henz, Hogan, Yorke, Meyler, Edwards SPECIAL PRESENTATION PUBLIC COMMENTS: A total of 15 minutes is provided so members of the public can address the Commissioners on items that are not listed on the Agenda. Speakers are limited to three (3) minutes each. If you desire to speak to the Commissioners about an item not listed on the Agenda, a green "Request to Speak" form should be filled out and filed with the Commission Secretary. When you are called to speak, please come forward and state your name and address. For all other agenda items, a "Request to Speak" form must be flied with the Community Services Commission Secretary before the item is addressed by the Commission. Approval of Community Services Commission Minutes RECOMMENDATION: 1.1 That the Community Services Commission approve the minutes of the November 4, 2002, meeting. MOTION: Commissioner Edwards moved to approve the minutes, as written. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Meyler, and voice vote reflected unanimous approval. COMMISSION BUSINESS 2. Harveston Park RECOMMENDATION: 2.1 That the Community Services Commission receive and file a report on the Harveston Community Park Master Plan Design. MOTION: Commissioner Hogan moved to approve staff's recommendation. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Meyler and voice vote reflected unanimous approval with the exception of Commissioner Edwards who was absent.. 3. Namin¢:l Policy for Parks and Recreation Facilities RECOMMENDATION: 3.1 That the Community Services Commission approve the recommendation of the Commission sub-committee to maintain the naming policy for parks and recreation facilities as currently written. MOTION: Commissioner Meyler moved that the Commission approve the staff's recommendation. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Hogan, and voice vote reflected unanimous approval with the exception of Commissioner Meyler, who opposed and Commissioner Edwards who was absent. Parker, Director of Community Services~.,~/'', February 10, 2003 Overview of the Impact of the Governor's Proposed State Budget Reductions to the City of Temecula RECOMMENDATION: this report. That the Community Services Commission receive and file BACKGROUND: On January 10, 2003 Governor Davis introduced his plan to address the projected $34.6 billion dollar shortfall in the state's 2003 - 2004 General Fund Budget. His plan includes a variety of ways to bridge this gap including program savings, resource shifts and revenue increases. The greatest impact to the City of Temecula lies in the Governor's proposed local government reductions. At the request of Commissioner Jim Meyler, our Director of Finance Genie Roberts is present tonight to provide the Commission with a brief overview of the potential impacts of the Governor's proposed State budget reductions. Parker, Director of Community Service~)_ February 10, 2003 Senior Citizen Programs PREPARED BY: Julie Pelletier, Recreation Superintendent RECOMMENDATION: That the Community Services Commission: Receive and file this report regarding City sponsored senior citizen programs offered at the Mary Phillip's Senior Center. DISCUSSION: On September 25, 1993, the City of Temecula proudly celebrated the grand opening of the Mary Phillip's Senior Center. Today, the center is extremely active providing recreational and human services opportunities to the ever-increasing number of senior citizens in the Temecula Valley. The programs include but are not limited to a daily lunch program, transportation program, exercise classes, dance classes, bridge, excursions, pot-lucks, special events and much more. Several newer programs include: "Stepping Out For Seniors" which is a statewide special event that will be held on May 17, 2003. The event will introduce and encourage seniors and their families to participate in the many programs offered to seniors. The event will include a health faire, a senior walk, class demonstrations, prizes, food and fun! Another program entitled "Picking Up The Pieces". This is a bereavement class that helps seniors and their families cope with loss of a loved one. Pilates is another program that has recently been introduced to the seniors. This is an exercise program that focuses on improving flexibility and strength for the total body. This program was so well received by the seniors that an additional two classes have been added. The Seniors Golden Years of Temecula Valley have been a very important part of the Mary Phillip's Senior Center for many years. The Seniors Golden Years are a non-profit organization dedicated to improving and enriching the lives of Ioca~ seniors. They provide additional programs and volunteer support that are instrumental in the overall success of the center. Attached are samples of some of the marketing materials that are currently being used to promote a variety of activities and programs offered at the Mary Phillip's Senior Center. This evening, Recreation Supervisor Candice Adkisson-Flohr will provide additional information and handouts regarding the overall operations and opportunities at the Mary Phillip's Senior Center.
